HOFMAG Therapy

A New Generation of Electromagnetic Therapy for Sport Horses

At Blue Oak Veterinary Bodywork, we are always searching for therapies that genuinely improve comfort, recovery, performance, and long-term soundness in horses.

That is why we are excited to introduce the HOFMAG PEMF System to our practice.

While many horse owners are familiar with traditional PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) therapy, HOFMAG represents a fundamentally different and more advanced approach to electromagnetic treatment. Its unique waveform technology was designed to interact with tissues differently than conventional PEMF systems and has gained increasing attention within high-performance equine sport medicine.

What makes HOFMAG Therapy Different?

The Science of HOFMAG Therapy

Most PEMF systems use a pulsed electromagnetic signal that repeatedly turns on and off in a relatively uniform pattern.

HOFMAG uses a proprietary ultra-low frequency waveform technology designed to create a more dynamic and biologically interactive electromagnetic field. Rather than simply delivering repetitive pulses, the system produces continuously changing signal patterns intended to better mimic the complexity of natural biologic communication within tissues.

In simpler terms:

Traditional PEMF can be thought of as a repetitive metronome.

HOFMAG functions more like a constantly changing symphony of frequencies.

This difference may influence how tissues respond at the cellular and neurologic level.

Patented wave technology

This illustration, taken from the output of an oscillograph, demonstrates the difference in the wave formation between other high intensity pulsed magnetic devices and the Hofmag. It highlights that the strength of the initial peak doesn’t result in a longer pulsed train, or more cellular level exposure to the magnetic field.

The Impact of Stress of Cellular Function

When a cell is exposed to disturbances in its surrounding environment, such as  inflammation caused by overexertion, stress or injury, it can greatly reduce the cell’s energy provision. This is because the mitochondria, responsible for generating cellular energy, are less able to generate and emit adenosine triphosphate (ATP).   With less than optimal ATP production, the cell is less able to perform vital processes resulting in the cell losing its functional quality. This causes the body to operate sub optimally and can cause exhaustion, pain, stiffness, reduced range of motion and slower recovery times.

Increases ATP production

Exposure of animal cells to Hofmag’s patented wave increases ATP in dysfunctional cells. Most importantly, even when the cell is in an inflammatory environment.   Hofmag treatments restore homeostasis in the cell and enable dysfunctional cells to recover and perform optimally, with remarkable positive effects across a range of conditions.

Time of Cellular Exposure to the electromagnetic field is key

The results of magnetic field treatment depends on both the strength and duration of exposure, and also on the specific waveform characteristics of the device.  What makes the Hofmag unique is the the duration cells are exposed to the magnetic field. The Hofmag's ability to deliver this unique wave formation is the scientific reason behind its success.

Hofmag’s patented technology delivers the most effective therapy due to its ability to uniquely expose the cell to 8x more magnetic field per treatment than any other high intensity device on the market. Hofmag emits 6 pulse trains per second, with each pulse representing 37 oscillations. This means it can deliver a longer wave, penetrating up to 20cm deep.

More About HOFMAG Therapy

Potential Benefits of HOFMAG Therapy

While every horse responds differently, HOFMAG therapy is commonly used to support:

  • Muscle relaxation and recovery
  • Reduction of muscular tension and guarding
  • Improved mobility and flexibility
  • Recovery after intense training or competition
  • Supportive care for chronic discomfort
  • Neurologic relaxation
  • Improved overall comfort and body awareness
  • Rehabilitation programs
  • Performance maintenance in sport horses

Many horses become visibly relaxed during treatment sessions, and riders commonly report improvements in suppleness, comfort, willingness to work, and recovery.

Why We Added HOGMAG To Our Practice

At Blue Oak Veterinary Bodywork, we are selective about the therapies we incorporate. We are not interested in trends simply because they are popular. We chose HOFMAG because:

  • The technology is unique compared to conventional PEMF systems
  • It is being increasingly utilized in high-level sport horse environments
  • The treatment is non-invasive and well tolerated by horses
  • It integrates exceptionally well with chiropractic care, acupuncture, rehabilitation, and performance medicine
  • We believe it complements our philosophy of combining evidence-based western medicine with thoughtful integrative therapies

Our goal is never to replace good diagnostics, sound veterinary medicine, or thoughtful training. Our goal is to help horses feel and function at their highest level.

FEI And Competition Considerations

One of the unique advantages of the HOFMAG system is that it was specifically designed with elite sport-horse environments in mind.

HOFMAG is currently one of the only electromagnetic therapy systems specifically approved for use within FEI stabling areas.

For riders competing at FEI, USEF, and upper-level sport, this provides an important layer of confidence and practicality when incorporating therapy into competition management plans.

What Does a Session Look Like?

Treatments are quiet, non-invasive, and generally very relaxing for horses.Depending on the horse’s needs, therapy may be applied:

  • Locally to specific regions
  • Along the topline and back
  • As part of a generalized full-body recovery session
  • Integrated with chiropractic adjustment, acupuncture, soft tissue therapy, or rehabilitation work

Many horses become sleepy, relaxed, or visibly softer during treatment.

Is HOFMAG Right For My Horse?

HOFMAG may be beneficial for:

  • Performance horses
  • Horses in heavy training
  • Horses recovering from strenuous competition
  • Horses with chronic muscular tension
  • Horses undergoing rehabilitation
  • Senior horses needing additional comfort support
  • Horses that benefit from multimodal integrative care

If you are unsure whether your horse is a good candidate, we are happy to discuss your horse’s individual needs and goals

Balanced Medicine for Better Performance

One of the core philosophies of Blue Oak Veterinary Bodywork is that excellent medicine comes from balance.

We believe modern diagnostics, sound veterinary science, rehabilitation principles, and integrative therapies all have a role in helping horses perform and feel their best.

HOFMAG is one more tool that allows us to approach the horse as an entire system — not just a single symptom.
